Causes and prevention tips for gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is a special medical condition in which the breast sizes will increase in males. While some people will get pain others will not have any pain. If the onset is present for less than 12 months, the disorder can be controlled through medication. On the other hand, if it is beyond 12 months, surgery might be the only option. The risk to breast cancer will not be present due to surgery or the disorder. If the breast cancer is suspected, the case should be referred to oncologist on urgent basis. After diagnosis, the condition will be mentioned into four grades. They are minor enlargement without skin excess, moderate enlargement with or without skin excess and marked enlargement with skin access.

Prevention

It is not possible to prevent the occurrence of gynecomastia as the exact cause is not known. By minimizing the risk factors, you will not offer a suitable atmosphere for the onset of gynecomastia. In most of the cases, the enlargement will subside automatically. It will happen within 6 months after the onset of symptoms. If the symptoms are present for more than 12 months and if there is a formation of scar, it is not possible to treat the condition through medication. In such cases, surgery will be the only option. If the onset is for less than 12 months, gynecomastia will be treated with various kinds of medications. If the issue is less related to the production of testosterone, the disorder can be treated more efficiently.
